The Museum of Islamic Arts & Crafts, having been recently founded, is still in the process of developing. Contributions to the Museum will go towards the initial renovation (just completed) of the space where the museum’s collection is now located. This initial renovation included the cost of construction, structural work, and installation of natural Jute carpeting and wood flooring. Contributions will also be used to support the growing infrastructure of museum operations including cataloguing of the museum’s collection, printing of museum catalogs and display materials, a museum staff person, advertising costs, insurance, and more. The long-term vision of the museum is that it will function as a living workshop of Islamic Arts, featuring crafts people from Kashmir, Rajastan, Afghanistan, and parts of Iran to produce replicas of the collection. The museum will also promote Master Teacher Lectures for patrons and visitors, and will exchange pieces from its collection with other textile museums in the nation. One of the central goals of the museum is to educate the public at large about Sufi Islam and its contributions to philosophy, arts and crafts.
